HOMESTEAD WATERWHEEL OAK
Below the shimmering millpond, a rippling creek turns the simple waterwheel that powered our pioneer past. The millhouse itself stands sentinel over cherished memories of a time gone by. Old oak beams, worked smooth by years of use, now grace log homes and retreats throughout America. Pioneered Wood takes this traditional flooring and gives it a modern-day flair. Homestead Waterwheel Oak, with its smooth texture and timeless character, reflects the purity and utility of pioneer America.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What’s the difference between Homestead Waterwheel Oak and traditional oak flooring?
• Traditional oak flooring is typically 2” wide at most. Homestead is crafted in wider widths for a unique and rustic appearance.

How do I get an antique look?
• Antique oak floors should have a distressed, low-gloss finish that is neither smooth nor evenly colored.
• A smooth new surface can be distressed mechanically, hand-scraped or allowed to mellow with natural wear.
• Natural patina will develop as Homestead darkens from exposure to sunlight.
• For a low-gloss luster, use a penetrating oil sealer such as tung oil, which also accentuates Homestead’s warm colors.

Can I use Homestead over a concrete floor?
• Use the same subfloor installation and precautions that you would use for any wood plank flooring.
• Special care must be taken to prevent moisture from migrating up into the floor.
• No plank flooring is recommended for use over radiant heating systems.

How hard is this wood?
• Oak has been used for floors since before Colonial times and with normal care will last a lifetime.
• Any wood floor will scratch, and high heels will always leave a dent.

What’s Exact-Dry?
• Homestead Waterwheel Oak is kiln-dried to match the humidity of your region.
Exact-Dry is an extra manufacturing process that ensures stability and is only matched by high-end hardwood products.

What sizes are available?
• Homestead is available in random-width bundles from 5” to 7” net face
¾" planks.

What’s the waste factor?
• Allow 10% overage for an average installation, 15% overage for critical installations.

Any special installation issues?
• Proper acclimation is required for a successful installation. Before plank flooring is delivered to the job site, the building must be fully enclosed with heating/cooling system in operation.
• Allow five to fourteen days for this flooring to acclimate properly—the flooring, subfloor and walls must have stable, equal moisture content.
