FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Q. Why Pioneered Wood?
I like this product, but I can get the same thing at Home Depot or online for less. Why should I buy Pioneered Wood instead?

A.

Pioneered Wood does a lot of things that make our product better than any other flooring out there.

  • We buy our wood from a mill that sell extremely high end lumber and that mixes all of the vertical grain in with the flat grain allowing us to have mixed grain floors. Most pine floors are either flat grain or vertical grain and you will pay much more for a vertical grain floor because of the look and the harder density of the grain standing on end against wear.
  • We mill all of our products with extreme attention to detail so every piece fits together and stays together, no gaps, no wood chatter from the moulders, 100% usable material.
  • We end match the material which is a must to anyone who knows flooring, especially when you are working with wider planks. End matching is a tongue and groove on the ends of the boards separate from the edge t&g standard on most all flooring products. The end match keeps the ends of the boards flush and tight so you don’t get ends curling up and potentially tripping you or catching your sock.
  • We Exact Dry the wood for your location, meaning that we dry our wood twice bringing the moisture content in the fibers down to a very low 8-10% which is lower than the moisture content in the air in most areas of the country. This will allow the wood to expand slightly in higher humidity areas, but never will it shrink leaving gaps between the boards.
  • We take extreme care to package and store the material so that it won’t gain moisture, get damaged by machinery, or become stagnant over time.
  • We provide you with a 15-year finish warranty.
  • We keep a professional installation contractor on staff to offer first hand, toll free technical support for installation, finishing, etc for your use at any time during your construction project.
  • All of our products are AMERICAN MADE
  • We create a product that fits a rustic application. We texture many of our products for a rustic, time worn look that you will never find in a local home center. Home Depot does not appeal to a rustic market. They are appealing to the standard home owner.
  • Our wood is harvested with ecologically friendly standards – No clear cutting and no environmentally damaging practices. By selectively harvesting a forest we allow the trees to remain a stable institution while cutting and thinning for the healthiest environment possible.

Q. When to order & shipping time
My home is under construction now, could you tell me at what stage, I should order my flooring? What is your typical shipping time after the order is placed?

A. Our Cheyenne and Concord products are continuously stocked in inventory and can be shipped within 24 hours of the order. The Saratoga, and Hamilton, are not continuously stocked inventory items and must be verified for availability before shipment. The Breckenridge, Homestead, and Sierra are always special order items and require an 8-10 week lead time for production. We recommend ordering your flooring as early in the home purchase process as possible. This allows maximum time for preparation on all materials for your home building process to flow smoothly.

Q. Color & texture options
I really like the samples you sent me, but I’m looking for a different color or a little different look. Do I have any other options?

A. We offer 7 different Pioneered Wood floors and 2 of these floors have 2 color options so all together you have 9 options for prefinished flooring through our company. We also provide every item without a prefinish coating applied so if you want to get ambitious you can stain the flooring to the color of your choice.

Q. Installation costs
I love this plank flooring! What should I expect to pay for installation?

A. Installation is clean, simple and fast on all of our Pioneered Wood prefinished floors. Most qualified installers charge in the area of $2.50 - $3.00/sf for installing prefinished wood flooring. A typical custom install where the contractor will stain and finish on site you can expect to pay a minimum of $5.00/sf. Don’t forget to calculate this into the cost of prefinished flooring since you will be getting a better finish with a 15 year warranty that is UV cured at our factory into the wood.

Q. Hardness of wood in floors
I love the look of this flooring, but isn’t pine a soft wood? I would think this floor would not hold up to wear and tear like a hard wood floor.

A.

Hardness Rating of our Floors
The hardness of wood in regard to the pressure it takes to dent a floor is measured using the JANKA hardness method. It is the measure of the amount of pressure in pounds that it takes to imbed a .444" steel ball 1/2 of its diameter into the wood. This graph will give you a relative idea of the comparative density of hardness of your specie of choice.

Pine is “the” traditional floor for log homes and cabins and has been for centuries. Yes, the floor is softer than our white oak or hickory products, but the beauty of pine is that even with the wear that occurs over time it maintains the rustic character and charm of the home. Our pine floors are produced from Loblolly pine which is the hardest of new growth pine species available and rates on the Janka scale at 800 psi. Wood homes, wood floors and wood cabinets are cherished for their beauty and warmth even though they are susceptible to damage and wear they are valued higher than steel, concrete, stone, and plastic.

Q. How much wood flooring to order
How do I calculate how much wood flooring I need for my home?

A. We can help you with this process. First of all, we recommend using either tile or linoleum in bathrooms, and utility rooms due to the good possibility of the flooring getting wet multiple times over it life. Review your floor plan to figure out total square footage of flooring areas. You always want to add an extra 10-15% as a waste factor for cutting.

Q. Solid wood floor & sanding
Is this solid wood floor? Is this a product that I can sand down and finish again in the future?

A. Yes, this is solid ¾” wood flooring. All of our products can be sanded and refinished as needed in the future.

Q. Radiant heat
I really want wood floors in my basement, but I’ve chose radiant heat as well. Can I use wood flooring over radiant heat?

A.

As the manufacturer, we would recommend that you NOT install any wood flooring over radiant heat.
