Glulam
Glued
laminated timber (glulam) redefines the possibilities for engineered
wood construction. Glulam is an engineered wood product that
optimizes the structural values of a renewable resource—wood
Glulam members are composed of individual pieces of dimension
lumber. The pieces are end-jointed together to produce long lengths
which are then bonded together with adhesives to create the required
beam dimensions. Because of their composition, large glulam members
can be manufactured from smaller trees harvested from second-
and third-growth forests and plantations. A variety of species
is used. With glulam, builders and specifiers can continue to
enjoy the strength and versatility of large wood members without
relying on the old growth-dependent solid-sawn timbers.
